There’s always a specific number of questions we are always asked when we advertise our pole dancing classes, and I’m sure every other studio owner can relate. Whether this is, ‘Am I too big?’ or ‘Do you need upper body strength?’, we are always met with the same questions. People are naturally nervous about trying pole dancing, and one of the groups we regularly answer questions from are the ‘more mature’ generation.
Now, we get asked this question, ‘Am I too old?’ not just from those with grandchildren or bus passes, but from literally anyone over the age of 30 it seems. The short answer is, no, you don’t need to be a veritable infant to pole dance. In fact, some of the best pole dancers in the world are in a more mature age range, and they totally rock it. I have women in my classes who are 18, and women who are in their 50s and 60s.
Of course, when starting a new exercise regime you should consult your doctor to ensure you are healthy enough to undertake this new challenge. Age can come with it’s own health concerns, especially for women, such as osteoporosis, which you may want to get checked before attending your first class. But once you have the all clear there is zero reasons for you to not be booking yourself on.
After all, you’re only as old as the pole you feel! 😉

Improve Fitness & Mobility
As you age, we are all faced with the same worries. Many of these are related to staying healthy and mobile. Those who neglect their fitness may find themselves falling, injuring themselves, and as a result, the likelihood of being house bound, inactive and depressed in your old age increase dramatically.
Starting pole dancing before this stage is a great way to prevent these negative side affects of ageing from happening. Pole dancing can improve muscle and bone strength, it can boost your cardio fitness, and increase your flexibility.
Age doesn’t have to be a guaranteed route to ill health.
It is FUN
Socialising and having fun is an essential element of life for anyone at any age. Regardless of how old you are, we all have that child like mischief within us that makes us feel perpetually 20 years old. Meet new, like-minded people, and just have a great time doing something adventurous and exciting.
It is LIBERATING
For many women, ageing is seen as a death sentence for their sexuality. Once you have passed a certain age, suddenly you are meant to become this sexless husk whose only purpose is to stand in as a wise wrinkled, amorphous blob who occasionally sighs at old photos and talks about how ‘beautiful I used to be, back in the war’. To that I say HELL NO.
Pole dancing is a great way for people of all ages to get in touch with their feminine and sensual sides. 7 inch Pleasers and scrunch butt Brazil shorts don’t come with an age limit certification stamped onto their wrapping that states only a certain young waif can rock them. They are free for everyone to use and enjoy.
